Summary

Seasonal hypoxia occurs in spring and summer time, even anoxia may develop. Hypoxia has resulted in fish kills. The lagoon has suffered from the release of domestic sewage and population increase. Additionally, the canal that connects the lagoon to the ocean is narrow, making the water exchange poor and water residence time high. Thus, the ecosystem is sensitive to eutrophication.
